Question 1:
a) i) “Macro” in macrosociological means “big or large”. Macrosociological is the study of
social relations and social factors on a large scale. Macrosociological studies society as a
whole. Examples of Macrosociological are the study of the economy and nations.
ii) “Micro” in microsociological means “small or not so big”. Microsociological is the
study of the social relations and social factors on a small (smaller) scale,
microsociological focuses more on individuals and small groups. Examples of
microsociological are the study of pattern of behaviour of something, it can also be
action or interaction.
iii) Socialisation takes place when people mix with one another and share each other’s
knowledge and opinions. Socialisation is also when children and adults learn from each
other. An example of Socialisation is, when you are told to obey rules, also interacting
with family and friends. The school is good example where socialisation take place.
iv) Transmission of culture means when knowledge and cultural elements gets passed
on by one individual or groups to other individuals or groups. This can also mean that
knowledge gets passed on by generations by telling stories. For example, my
grandfather told me about his child years and taught me the right things to do. Another
example can be events that occurs on the same date every year like Easter.
v) Social class is when people get grouped into a set of hierarchical social categories
within the family or society, this includes; wealth, influence, educational attainment,
occupation, heritage, income, appearance etc. There are mainly 3 different groups
people get categorised into namely; upper-, middle- and lower- class. An Example of
social class is when the rich people gets more attention than the poor people. Rich
people will be on top of the hierarchy and poor people at the bottom.
