Performance Assessment:
UBMC Analysis and Insights
D223 Task 1 part 1 - Task 1 for D223 - passed
Healthcare Policy and Economics (Western Governors University)
, Hospital Examination
A1. Hospital Selection
Uintah Basin Medical Center (UBMC), Roosevelt, Utah.
A2. Personal significance of the chosen hospital
I chose Uintah Basin Medical Center because I have worked for this hospital for almost
five years. I delivered two of my children here, and I know many people and feel comfortable
with the hospital and its policies.
A3. Type of Facility
This facility is a non-profit that provides acute care to the community.
A3a. Medical Services Provided
Uintah Basin Medical Center provides emergency, maternity, surgery, wound care,
dialysis, long-term, and rehab services.
A4. Ownership Structure
For-profit: they financially rely on investors, giving for-profit hospitals more options on
which services they provide. They usually offer more profitable services to the community, but
research has shown this does not affect their quality of care. The for-profit hospitals can return
investments to their investors or use the money to invest in other healthcare options. For-profit
hospitals still need to provide charity care to the community, like non-profit hospitals.
Non-profit: These hospitals serve the community and do not have to pay federal, state, or
county taxes. However, they must provide proof on tax forms that they benefit the community
and provide charity care.
