• Same-sex couples can enter into a Civil Partnership AND can now marry
Civil Partnership Act 2004
Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013
Man + man and woman + woman can enter CP or can marry
• Couples of the opposite sex can marry AND now also enter into Civil Partnerships
Civil Partnership, Marriages and Deaths (Registrations etc) Act 2019 came into
force in March 2020.
• The procedure for dissolving a civil partnership is the same as divorce (Form D8) and all
the financial remedies/reliefs are the same BUT be wary of the ground of ADULTERY it
does NOT always apply…
-See legal definition of adultery (sexual intercourse with someone of the opposite sex)
