Shows deep knowledge of the text.

Develops an argument that is logical, clear, and sophisticated.
Uses quotations effectively, weaving them into your argument.
Ideas and quotes support each other perfectly.

The essay is free from mistakes.
Exceeds expectations in depth and understanding of the topic.
PARAGRAPHS & TOPIC SENTENCES:

Topic sentences should be clear and simple, just like your thesis.
Avoid compound and complex sentences for topic sentences; they can confuse the reader.
After the topic sentence, explain and defend it with details, facts, and textual support.
Main points should always be clearly stated.
Body Paragraph Flow:
Use transitional words or phrases to connect paragraphs and ideas.
Transitional words help:
o Connect sentences, paragraphs, and ideas.
o Convey information clearly and concisely.
o Establish a logical argument.
o Signal relationships between ideas.
o Organise paragraphs logically.
o Create flow between claim and evidence.
Examples of Transitional Words:
