Introduction
I chose to highlight the culture of Albania for my cultural competency paper. I have a
friend very dear to me who moved here at 18 years old in search of a better life. I’ve grown to
learn more than I could’ve ever imagined about her part of the world through her. As a

Background
Albania is in the southeastern part of Europe and borders Montenegro, North Macedonia,
and Greece. Albanians are divided into two cultural groups of the north and south, known as
Ghegs and Tosks, and their language differs significantly in dialect. The language of Albania is

conduct, and kin loyalty. The Kanun compels Albanians to keep their promises, make agreements
to completion, and see to their obligations and responsibilities in life (Kiprop, 2018).
What are the prevalent healthcare beliefs and needs of this culture?

have a constitutional right to have adequate health insurance. They have a universal health care
model that is made possible through mandatory, voluntary, and supplemented contributions
(Musabelliu, 2019). Albania has a mostly public healthcare system that is organized into three
levels: the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. All levels of which are offered through about
