MODULE : SKILLS IN COMMUNITY ENTRY

MODULE CODE :HSKC 012

HABITS OF HIGLY EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY PRACTITIONERS

Throughout the module ,you will find yourself facing this module. For some student is
might be the easiest while it becomes harder for other. Here we will be focusing on
the habits of the most effective community practitioner. You might think that being a
community practitioner is all about you giving orders or taking over ,well if you
thought so get your mind ready for the most guiding habits an effective community
worker must have.

Habit 1 : Strive to understand their position in the great scheme of things.

As much as the community work can be exhausting or put a strain on a community
worker, it shows that one must know their place than rather feel like they can work
things out on their own or order others around. Some community practitioners want
to see everything they learnt about and if they do not, they fail to carry out their
allocated work. Some of them tend to act like they are more knowledgeable than
community member.

Well effective community practitioners do not act in that manner at all. They accept
that reality can be different from theory ,meaning that they understand that the
possibility for them to face greater challenges than those they learnt about is quite
high. They are eager to learn from community members by accepting that they do
not have all the knowledge ,skills and potentials .They respect what they receive
from the community ,as they understand that they are just outsiders who came to
work along with community members rather than excluding community members
from the community work. They do not take negative feedback from community
members as an insult but rather as a motivation to improve.
