Assignment 2 2026
Unique Number:
Due Date: 12 February 2026
1.1 Definition of Assessment
Assessment in Grade R is the process of carefully observing and understanding how young
children learn and develop during daily activities. It helps the teacher to see what each
learner knows, what they can do, and where they need support. Assessment is not only
about testing but about watching learners as they play, talk, draw, move, and interact with
others. Through assessment, the teacher gathers information to guide teaching, support
learning, and help every child grow at their own pace. Assessment in Grade R should
always be child friendly, continuous, and supportive.
