HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS (HPI)


An 18-month-old child is brought in by the parent with a 3–4 day history of

cough. The cough is described as nonproductive, intermittent, and worse at

night. Parent reports nasal congestion and rhinorrhea. No wheezing noted by

caregiver. No choking episode. No cyanosis. No vomiting associated with

coughing. Appetite is slightly decreased, but the child is still drinking fluids

and producing wet diapers. Sleep is mildly disrupted.
