A. Traditional Project Management Initiating Process
A1. Purpose of the Project Charter
For traditional project management, the project charter provides a short outline
of the project’s main elements including the project goals and objectives, the scope,
stakeholders and certain responsibilities.
As the roadmap for the project, the project charter is required for obtaining
approval, ensuring that the project is kept on track, establishing the link to the
goals of the organization and to also communicate expectations. With the project
charter providing the outline of the project, more in-depth planning documents
like the project plan can provide a more detailed blueprint.

Project Purpose
The purpose of this project is to migrate the company’s on-premises IT
infrastructure to a third-party cloud data center.

Project Description
This project seeks to ensure that the necessary expertise, data storage, processing
and safekeeping of company data is enabled to the highest standard. All locally
stored data will be migrated to the cloud and all IT infrastructure will be
implemented at a qualified third party cloud managed service provider (MSP).
High Level In Scope/Out of Scope Deliverables
In Scope
- Migrate all locally stored data to the cloud domestically
- Implement all IT infrastructure systems in the cloud
- Implement all business applications in the cloud
- Implement all information security systems to protect data and identities in
the cloud
- Test all migrated systems for interoperability and functionality
- Implement reporting for compliance audit
Out of Scope
- Implementation of on-premises endpoint security controls
- Implementation of on-premises information security controls
- Implementation of on-premises offline storage capabilities
- Implementation of on-premises security incident and event management
capabilities
