How did the scenario make you feel?
Overall this scenario made me feel confident in what I know, the only time I felt a little
stressed in this scenario was when I was administering the medication. The reason I
was stressed was due to the medications not having an exact administration time.
Scenario Analysis Questions*
PCC/EBP/S When reflecting on the care of Stan Checketts, what are signs and
symptoms you can assess in the next patient you care for who might be at risk for
dehydration?
The signs and symptoms that could be assessed are poor skin turgor, decreased urine
output, decreased blood pressure, amount of vomiting as it can lead to dehydration. You
could also look at the patient’s intake and see if they are consuming an adequate
amount of fluids.
EBP/QI Discuss signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock.
The signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock are poor skin turgor, cool and moist
skin, rapid respirations, confusion, anxiety or agitation, decreased or no urine output,
pallor, cyanosis, rapid, weak, thready pulse, decrease in blood pressure, the patient
could also present with a low body temperature, decrease in pulse/heart rate, and
concentrated urine.
PCC/EBP Discuss assessment and expected findings in a small bowel
obstruction.
The assessment and expected finding in a small bowel obstruction are abdominal pain
and tenderness upon palpation, nausea and vomiting, bloating of the abdomen,
hyperactive bowel sounds upon auscultation of the abdomen, decreased appetite,
constipation, and an absence of flatulence.
