Due to the need for social distancing and infection control precautions related to COVID 19 students and staff (unless they are alone in their office) are required to wear a mask at all times when in the MedTech building. Handwashing/hand sanitizing is required upon arrival. Students participating in labs are expected to follow additional precautions as directed by faculty during these experiences. Students must leave the building and not linger to socialize as soon as their lab activity is completed. Failure to follow these requirements is a violation of the student conduct guidelines and will be referred to the Dean of Students. Course Description: Presents essential concepts of pharmacology. Designed to promote the use of critical thinking in the application of drug therapy. Emphasis is placed on the integration of pharmacological principles, legal responsibilities of the nurse, and the nursing process. Prerequisites: Perquisites/co-requisite: BIO 152 and NUR 110. Program Learning Outcomes GCC: Upon completion of this course at GCC, the student will: 1. Participate in compassionate and coordinated care by partnering with the patient/family/community to support individualized health care needs and identified outcomes (Competency #1: Patient-Centered Care) 2. Adhere to legal, ethical and regulatory standards in conjunction with current nursing research and risk management strategies to provide and maintain an environment of safety and continuous quality improvement. (Competency #2: Safe Practice Environment) 3. Collaborate with the patient/family/community and other members of the healthcare team in planning, decision making, and problem-solving to promote optimal health and move toward the achievement of mutually agreed-upon outcomes. (Competency #3: Collaboration) 4. Utilize available technology and other information resources to ensure effective communication, promote patient safety, and advance patient and organizational outcomes. (Competency #4: Healthcare Informatics) 5. Integrate organization, delegation, and prioritization to promote the attainment of individual and organizational outcomes.
