History of Present Illness (HPI)
,A.M. is a 22-month-old female presenting for evaluation of
delayed social interaction and communication. According to
her mother, the child has demonstrated limited interest in social
engagement, avoids interacting with peers, and prefers solitary
play. These behaviors have been progressively evident for
approximately 6–8 months.
The mother reports the child avoids eye contact, does not
consistently respond to her name, and rarely uses gestures such
as pointing, waving, or showing objects to share interest. The
child does not participate in pretend play and has no meaningful
spoken words, communicating primarily through babbling.
Repetitive behaviors are present, including hand flapping when
excited and lining up toys.
There has been no developmental regression, seizures, head
trauma, fever, or acute illness. Prenatal history, delivery, and
postnatal course were unremarkable. Immunizations are current.
