TEFL MODULE 1 EXAM REPORTED
QUESTIONS WITH COMPLETE
ANSWERS

What is the latest methodology applicable to TEFL? - Answer-the Eclectic method

Grammar Translation Method - Answer-A way of teaching in which learners study
grammar and translate words and texts into their own language or the target language.
They do not practise communication and there is little focus on speaking.

Direct Method (Natural Method) - Answer-Uses pantomime, real objects and visual
materials to teach vocabulary and concepts.

Audio-Lingual Method - Answer-the audio lingual method use only the target language.
The teacher present dialogs; students repeat each line and practice changing one or
more words in a sentence. This method assumes that language is learned by habit and
that every language has a finite number of patterns. Therefore, pattern practice and
drills are an essential component of this method. The goal is for students to over-learn
so that they will come to respond automatically.

Suggestopedia - Answer-relaxed environment (dim lights, soft music) students listen to
dialogues then practice them. Students may "become" a character in the target
langauge. Designed to place as much language teaching emphasis on learner
personality and motivation as that typically placed on intellect

TPR-Total Physical Response - Answer-Uses body movement to accelerate language
acquisition, teacher gives command and models the action: open your book; stand up;
walk to the window.

CLT (communicative language teaching) - Answer-based on whether the teacher
understands the student rather than whether the student is correctly speaking English. If
a teacher adapted this method, he or she would need to pretend to understand only
what any regular speaker of the target language would ordinarily understand.

Interpersonal Intelligence - Answer-The ability to understand and interact effectively with
others (works best with others)

intrapersonal intelligence - Answer-the ability to understand oneself (works best alone)

logical-mathematical intelligence - Answer-skills in problem solving and scientific
thinking (responds well to logical grammatical explanations)
