Educational Problem: Qualitative Data
An educational problem I see frequently is the lack of student engagement and

motivation. Some of my students this year have been reluctant to participate in classroom

discussions, complete task in school or at home, or attempt new things on their own.


Advantage and Disadvantage: Qualitative Data A-1


One advantage to using and collecting qualitative data to address student motivation is

that I will gain some insight from parents regarding their child’s overall motivation at home as

well. This can also include some extra understanding of the various home factors that may

positively or negatively influence the lack of engagement and motivation observed with-in the

classroom. Using qualitative data to gain a better understanding or these underlying reasons

and motivation I can better serve my students (Cardinal, 2020). By gaining knowledge about

where at student comes from and why they act a certain way is an important part of a

classroom environment.


A disadvantage of using qualitative data for this problem would be the fact that parents

may opt to not participate or may not be fully transparent about issues affecting their children.

Another concern might be that these are students who are between the age of seven and eight

and may not truly really know why they act in such a manor. This lack of communication could

hinder the underlying reasons for the lack of motivation.


Appropriateness: Qualitative Data A-2


The use of qualitative data would be most appropriate here since it’s used to

understand the underlying reasons that affect a student’s behavior, which can directly relate to
