By selectin one informal art centre, The Polly Street Art Centre, this essay went in detail with reference to two black artists who received training there during the apartheid years. With reference to two artworks by each artist, different themes, styles and media explored at the training centre were considered and discussed. Another discussion were followed by whether this training approach promoted creativity among black artists or simply reinforced white hegemony.
