This document gives an in-depth but to the point explanation of how energy systems work whilst exercising. It explains the production and breakdown of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through the three different but integrated processes that work together to produce the required amount of energy needed for muscle contraction. These three systems are using creatine phosphate, using glycogen (anaerobic glycolysis) and using aerobic respiration (aerobic glycolysis lipolysis).
