Radiant flux is the amount of energy coming in from the sun. The unit we use for flux is the notation for flux and then irradiance is the flux incident on the surface per unit surface area. The amount of photons that come in your eye is smaller but that's not because the sun doesn't look brighter it's just because you know the angle of you from the sun is smaller. We need to talk about something that accounts for that angle. The measure of solid angle is called ste radians.
