Describe the skills needed to run the business successfully and what
areas require further personal development.
In this assignment, I will describe the skills needed to run the business, and which need further
development. I will also describe the skills I currently possess and how they contribute to the success
of the business.
Skills needed to run the business successfully:
I can efecctvely use computers to create both a website, as well as using ofce tools, such as Word
or PowerPoint to create reports or presentactons, as well as Excel to create visuals such as tables or
graphs. These skills will be important to the success of the business as we will need a website for the
lavender to convince people to visit, as well as showing them what goods and services are on ofer.
In addicton to this, the skills I have will help as we will need a social media page to get people talking
about the brand. This will be important as social media is currently one of the best types of
adverctsing, if used efecctvely.
I am organised, with work set out in a clear method. This will beneft the business as the lavender
will have to be grown with an organised style, rather than in pots around the land. Therefore, we will
not sell any premature lavender or fail to sell lavender and it dies. One way to combat this is to have
sctckers with the year the lavender was planted on the side of it.
I have great problem-solving skills, meaning I can solve a problem with a solucton that works for
most of the parctes involved. This will be benefcial due to the number of lavender and the possibility
of the lavender not growing, or becoming diseased. This will also be benefcial as if there is an
unhappy customer, I would be able to calm the situacton without creactng a scene, as well as without
the business losing money.
I also have some team management skills. Using this I can select the best worker for the task and
allocate roles efecctvely. owever, it would be useful to learn more about this, as afer the business
grows, it would rely heavily on team management, like any business with mulctple employees.
I have knowledge of the market and understand the relactonship between the employees and the
customers. This will help to be compectctve in the market, as well as to enctce people into the
business and incenctvise them to return, creactng brand loyalty.
I also have skills markectng skills I learnt from this business course. Markectng will be an extremely
important part of this business. That is because our products will be high end, meaning that people
will only choose to shop at our business if the branding, the atmosphere and the markectng are
correct to what is being sold. In our case, the interior of the shop would be designed like a farm
shop. owever, for a business like ours, I will require more knowledge of markectng. This will be
achieved by either atending a course for businesses about markectng, or hiring a professional in the
markectng feld. The former will increase the markectng of the business over the long run, however
the later will increase the branding and markectng of the business quickly, however, we will sctll not
have the skills if the need to change branding occurs again. Therefore, it would be important to
decide which would be the best value for money. In my opinion, I would hire an expert to design the
branding when the business frst opens, aferwhich use profts to reinvest in the workers to give
them valuable skills and increase personal development. To achieve the required knowledge in a
class, I would expect 3 weeks learning about markectng every day for 2 hours. It is imperactve this
skills gap is breached as if it is not breached we will not be able to market new products or services,
