substances undergo a change to form new substances with different properties. In our daily life, we
see many chemical reactions such as rusting of iron, burning of wood, digestion of food, and
formation of curd from milk. These reactions show that the original substances are completely
transformed into new substances. The substances that take part in a reaction are known as
reactants, while the substances formed at the end of the reaction are called products. The main
purpose of studying this chapter is to understand how chemical changes take place and how we
