, WHAT IS AN OS AND WHAT’S THE PURPOSE?
An operating system is system software that sits between a user and the hardware, it
helps to run programs on the computer and so that it can complete certain tasks. The
operating system is also responsible for managing the computer hardware and
software resources and makes sure to provide different services for the different
computer programs.
The purpose of the Operating System is to do different things like; being responsible
for security this means that unauthorised users don’t have access to files or the system
itself. It is also responsible for making sure that it manages the different resources like
the CPU, memory, disk drives and printers.
