Journal Reflection #4
I am entering the health care field because I want to do work that helps others and I
want to make a positive impact on people’s lives. My first career was as a 2nd grade teacher and
although I cared immensely for my students and their families, I realized that a classroom of 25+
kids was just not for me. I believe my motivation for this career change is a combination of my
desire to continue helping others and a fascination into medicine...

Having universal moral laws is not something I support. I think that not everything is black and
white and particular circumstances do come into play when choosing right from wrong. The google
definition of ‘morals’ is “a lesson, especially one concerning what is right or prudent, that can be derived
from a story, a piece of information, or an experience.” This same google definition also stated that
morals are “a person's standards of behavior or beliefs c...

It is hard to pinpoint exactly what everyone deems as the ‘good life’ because everyone
has their own opinion. However, I feel that today’s commonly held perspectives would lean
towards viewing the good life in a materialistic way. How much money you have and how nice
your possessions are, equates to how ‘good’ your life is. I feel like many people have the vice of
envying what other people have and feel the need to level up. These ideas come from social
med...

I would not allow the CNA to give the medicine. In 4.1 of the ANA’s code of ethics it
states that “nurses must always comply with and adhere to state nurse practices, regulations
and standard of care”. Having the RN be the specific person to hand out medicine would be an
example of a regulation. If the nurse allows the CNA to do it, they are breaking regulation. In
this scenario, the delegation of tasks seems to be more important than timely medicine. The

- Hearing that person A has dementia was not a huge surprise to me. She is 88 years old
and the chances of developing dementia grow with age. I was however a little surprised to hear
that person B has ovarian cancer. I feel like 23 is so young for that diagnosis. Person D’s
diagnosis of a self-inflicted abdomen wound took me by surprise as well. I assumed that if he
really was innocent that he would be fighting to get out of jail and not trying to take his own life.
I was mostly surprised t...

- What differences exist in social and economic status of the four people described?
The four people described come from various social and economic statuses. Person A
seems to be leading a good life and I would assume in the upper economic class. She is well
traveled having lived in 6 countries and I would assume has traveled to even more. She also
must be well educated because of her occupation as a CEO. Person B strikes me as being young
for already having two children. You do not need a c...
