Agartala Conspiracy Case

Abstract The chosen topic for our research is “The Agartala Conspiracy Case”. We chose this theme because it was one of the two most famous conspiracy cases during the first two decades of Pakistan. The case is important because it is believed to have changed the future of Pakistan and the Bengali History and even helped transform the geography and politics of South-Asia. The interesting fact we found out about this case is that, many years after it was dropped as being a false case, it was actually proven true as some of the then accused had agreed to have conspired against the Pakistan Government. The case also helped Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gain his famous title “Bongobondhu” (Friend of Bengal). Our research questions would mainly focus on the following:  What caused the initiation of the conspiracy?  Did the conspiracy serve its purpose in the short and long run?  What were the actual reasons behind it? Throughout our assignment, we have found and answered our questions in detail with every necessary history and reason to support them. Introduction The Agartala Conspiracy Case was a sedition case in Pakistan in 1968, against Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the then leader of the Awami League and East Pakistan and 35 others including three personnel from the civil law. The word sedition refers to an act of conspiring against the government or state by words, either written or verbal, or by signs or any form of visible representation to bring about some form of hatred or contempt upon the government. The case was one of the most dramatic cases in history which went rather unsolved in the end, until several decades later, the truth behind it was revealed. Research Questions / Purpose / Objective Our research will be produced from the study material provided by the lecturer, different citations, newspaper articles and also some blogs and books of some famous writers who has seen or clearly know about the events that led to the case being filed and the actions and reactions that followed it.
