Child Language Acquisition

Some notes I made on the ways children learn to write.

This is an essay in response to the statement ‘being creative is an essential part of learning to write’ from the June 2022 paper. The essay scored 28 out of 30 with 14 marks awarded for AO1 (terminology) and 14 marks awarded for AO2 (theory). The essay evaluates many theories of written language acquisition before drawing a justified conclusion.

This is an example essay in response to the statement “children’s language development depends on their experiences of the world around them” from the June 2023 paper. This essay scored 30 out of 30 marks, with full marks awarded for both AO1 (terminology) and AO2 (theory). This answer critically evaluates both nature and nurture theories using the transcript, before drawing a justified conclusion about the process.

This is an example essay for Alevel English Language Paper 1 Question 4 (spoken child language acquisition) in response to the statement “a child’s language development is a linear process.” The essay achieved 29 out of 30 marks which is equivalent to an A*, receiving 14 out of 15 marks for AO1 (terminology) and 15 out of 15 marks for AO2 (theory). ‘Language development is less about just learning vocabulary and grammar and is more about using them in social interactions’. (30 marks). I scored 26 out of 30 on this essay which was an A*.
