Types of Long-Term Memory
Tulving (1985)
Suggested that the MSM was too simplistic.
Instead he suggested that there were different types of LTM, therefore
advancing the MSM by adding more detail to LTM.
The Three Types of LTM:
Episodic
Stores events that we have experienced in our lives.
It is conscious and declarative; it has a personal nature.
Semantic
Information about the world arounds us.
Allows us to understand the meaning of words and know facts about the
world around us.
It is conscious thought.
Procedural
How to do things, unconscious and non-declarative part of long term
memory.
Cohen (Alternative)
