, Origin of psych
Psychology-the scientific study of the mind, behaviour and experiences
Wundt and introspection
In 1879 Wundt opened the first psychology lab ever which marks the
beginning of scientific psychology. His aim was to try and analyse the
nature of human consciousness and this is the first systematic approach
to study the mind.
One of his main objections was to try and develop diffrent therios about
mental processes like languages and perception and Wundt's goal that he
set himself was to document and describe the nature of human
consciousness. Him and with co-workers recorded experiences with
different stimuli as they were presented with different objects and sounds.
He divided his observations into 3 categories: thought, image and
sensation.
Isolating the structure of conciseness in this way is called structuralism.
The stimuli that Wundt and his coworker experienced were always
presented in the same order and the same instructions were given to
participants.
Introspection- the first systematic experimental attempt to study the mind
by breaking up conscious awareness into basic structures of thoughts
image and sensation.
