My homemade notes on culture, norms and values, socialisation, nurture vs nature, and role and status will likely include an overview of how societies shape individual behaviour and identity. They might describe culture as the shared beliefs, traditions, and practices that give meaning to social life, while norms and values outline the expected behaviours and moral principles that guide people’s actions. You may cover socialisation as the lifelong process through which individuals learn these cultural norms and values, often linking it to the nature vs nurture debate, which questions whether human behaviour is shaped more by genetics or by environment and upbringing. Your notes could also include how people’s roles (the expected behaviours tied to particular social positions) and status (the level of prestige or respect attached to those positions) influence identity, relationships, and social order. Altogether, your notes would highlight how these concepts interact to explain both individual behaviour and wider patterns in society.
