,Introduction
In this report I will be investigating how alloyed and unalloyed metals react during welding
processes by evaluating how structure and properties of steels and nonferrous metals
react when welding processes are carried out on them. The materials I will be discussing in
this investigation are: Low carbon steel, Stainless steel and Aluminium. Each of these
materials have different properties and microstructure which are affected when different
welding processes are carried out. Within this report I will discuss the defects and
irregularities caused by welding and the effects of forces and loading on welded joints and
how they differ in different welds.

, Microstructure, Properties and Welding Processes of
Materials
This section will cover the 3 chosen metals in this report and their properties,
microstructures and their suitable welding processes.

The image below shows the arrangement of atoms in FCC and BCC, atomic structures that
are found in the 3 materials that will be explored in the report.
