5.3 Reproduction in humans
Humans and sexual reproduction
● Revision:
Male reproductive system
/vas deferens
●
● Bladder (膀胱) - stores urine produced by kidneys, which is released at intervals
from body via urethra
● Prostate gland (前列腺) - where the sperm duct joins to urethra, produces semen
(fluid in which sperms swim) — ***𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑚 → 𝑓𝑙𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑠 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑔𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑠 → 𝑠𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛***
(SBA) produces fluid which nourishes, transports sperm (semen/seminal fluid [精
液])
1
, ● Testis (睾丸) - site of sperm formation, result of meiotic cell division inside millions
of small tubules; ONLY happens below body temperature (<37˚C), which is why
testes are suspended in scrotum — keeps them cool; produces hormone
testosterone
(SBA) produce sperms, make hormone testosterone
● Scrotum (陰囊) - sac of skin holding testes outside abdominal cavity
● Urethra (尿道) - carries urine/sperm from body
● Penis (陰莖) - contains erectile tissue, used to introduce sperm into vagina during
sexual intercourse, sperm carried along urethra during ejaculation
(SBA) pass urine out of body from bladder, pass semen into vagina of woman during
sexual intercourse
● Sperm duct/vas deferens (輸精管) -
(TB) tube storing sperm before ejaculation, when they are passed along with
semen produced by seminal vesicles (囊泡) and prostate gland into urethra
(SBA) passes sperm
● Epididymis (附睾) - transports sperm from rete testes (睾丸網) to sperm duct
● Pubic bone (恥骨) {not shown in diagram} - forms part of pelvic girdle (骨盆帶)
