Unit 4 Managing an event - Assignment 1
Analyse own skills with those required by an event
manager, highlighting areas for development.
In this report, I will analyse my skills against those who are required to be an event
manager and I will highlight areas for improvement. To be a successful event
manager, I need to easily adapt and master the skills required by an event manager.
I gave myself three points on the semantic differential scale. This is because I am
capable of doing work ahead of schedule and submitting it on time. In addition, I
maintain my workplace tidy. This is a talent that event planners must possess for the
event to work properly. Being organised is especially important to be an event
manager since it requires a variety of skills and the completion of various duties. I
still believe I am not excellent at this ability because dealing with several tasks at
once is not my strongest skill. If there is a lot to finish, I won't be able to handle it and
will sometimes panic. I can also make a mistake and mix things up. However, I can
take time to do the important task and complete it properly. For this skill, I believe I
will need to improve my timing and be prepared to deal with several tasks at once.
To strengthen this talent, I may use a yearly planner, which can be beneficial in
organising my ideas. I can use it to keep track of my appointments, travel plans, and
other vital information. I may also refer to it regularly and jot down events that will
occur in the future. For example, if I have an appointment in two months I can put it
down in my planner so that I don't forget it. To improve my organisational abilities
even further I may research on the internet, where I can discover several parts
related to the event management issue and learn how to proceed with them.
Avoiding distractions is another approach to enhance my organisational abilities, as
avoiding distractions is a fantastic way to effectively manage my time. By avoiding
distractions, I will be able to dedicate 100% of my focus to my task and complete it
on time.
In the problem-solving skill, I gave myself a score of 4 on the semantic differential
scale. I assigned myself a 2 because I can solve some difficulties with money,
customer bills, and so on. In addition, I can apply creative thinking to come up with a
unique solution to solve problems. It takes me a little time to solve problems with
money. As an event planner, I need to be able to solve problems quickly and get to
the root of a problem which indicates that I need to improve on this talent because it
is critical for an event organiser to have. Event planners problem-solving skills let
them focus on getting things right on the day is important to ensure their attendees
have a great experience, so I will have to make sure my skills match with the event
manager and to achieve this I need to improve this skill as problems are difficult to
understand or solve so I need to identify the problems to develop my problem-
solving skills. Whether I’m dealing with a complex problem or a relatively simple one,
I need to have the right mindset and understanding of solving the problem. To
develop this talent, I will make a lot of improvements to guarantee that it is useful in
