INTRO:
- KE is a deontological theory of ethics that relies on an innate sense of a priori reasoning to
create universalible moral maxims and achieve the ultimate telos, the summum bonum.
- Deontological, absolutist, a priori theory of ethics- based on logic and reason
- Rejects emotion and empiricism- does not believe in the consequentialist school of thought
- Aimed to show that there is an objective, universal morality and this can be known through
reason
- Humans should be rational, autonomous decision makers- and should do the right thing
based off duty and not emotion or consequence
- Uses the three formulations of the categorical imperative to determine if an action is moral
or not
MY LINE OF THESIS
- Kant is too abstract in his thinking
- His rejection of love and emotion is inhumane and hard to follow
- There are serious weaknesses that make his theory impossible to follow in 21 st century
