The purpose of these fact sheets is to describe the roles of different travel and tourism
organisations, to review the different types of interrelationships and provide examples,
explain the roles of different organisations within travel and tourism component industries
and how they interrelate and to analyse the importance of interrelationships within one
travel and tourism organisation.
P2:
Alton Towers:
Alton Towers is an amusement/theme park located in Staffordshire,
England. It is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group. The amusement
park includes a theme park, water park, spa, mini golf and a hotel
complex. Alton Towers grounds was originally a private estate, but it
opened to the public in 1860 to raise funds.
Meeting the key aims of the organisation:
Alton Towers main aim is to make a profit, increase the market share and to become bigger
than Disneyland Paris.
Alton Towers attracted approximately 2 million customers in 2017.
Currently Alton Towers are second best to Disney being the world’s largest entertainment
business – Merlin Entertainment are now catching up, so their aim is to ‘always be chasing
Mickey’s tail’.
Alton Towers are a private sector organisation, this means you can buy shares and they can
be taken out.
Their key objective is to do this by making a profit.
Providing products and services:
Alton Towers provide an experience to their customers, they also provide services such as
hotel accomodation within the park and offer many restaurant choices, they offer themed
events throughout the year such as Scarefest, Christmas and fireworks.
