Bone Marrow
Consists of:
o Sinusoids- specialized units of blood vessels
sort of like capillaries in that they are connected to arterial
and vascular flow
consists of:
endothelial lining
discontinuous basement membrane
incomplete covering of reticular cells
Bone-Marrow sinusoidal system is closed circulation
Maturing blood cells have to push through
endothelial lining of sinusoids
o Like literally they stick processes through the
other cells- transcellularly
They push against the luminal
membrane and fuse until they form an
aperture
Then the blood cell passes through it or
the megakaryocyte sticks its “process” in
and shoots off a load of platelets
o Sponge-like network of hemopoietic cells
Lie in cords between bone and sinusoids/ sinusoids and
sinusoids
o Reticular cells (adventitial cells)
