• This is when staff have weekly or monthly 1 to 1 sessions with their manager
to discuss their strengths and areas for improvement and a good chance to
discuss issues.
• This will contribute to an effective workplace because the staff will know what
they need to do and know which areas that they need to improve on so they
can be better this will result in a better workplace because everyone will
constantly work on their feedback from appraisals.
• This will affect staff motivation because they will want to work harder and be
better to get better feedback from their manager through these appraisals.
• An example of a company that uses appraisals to motivate staff is TUI. They
provide staff appraisals and Thomas cook. They also provide staff appraisals.

• This is the basic pay that is given before any extras or bonuses
• This can contribute to an effective work place because staff will work hard
knowing that they will be paid which makes the work place more effective
because staff will be doing what they should.
• This impacts employee motivation because without remuneration, the staff are
unlikely to work. If they are being paid then it will motivate them to work.
• An example of using remuneration for motivation is paying staff a competitive
wage. A company could include a TUI retail store manager. The wage is
£24,000/year. Another example is Thomas Cook they have a similar salary of
£25,000/year. This helps to give them motivation come for the job as it has a
good salary it is important to have a competitive salary so that staff will
choose your company.

• This when you get paid based on how well you perform or the more sales you
make the more you get paid.
