scale?

The Water Cycle:




Distribution of global water stores:
Hydrosphere – 96.5%
Atmosphere – 0.001%
Cryosphere – 1.7%
Lithosphere – 1.7%

Limited availability of fresh water:
- Total global water only accessible is 96.5% ocean water
- Freshwater supply: earth only has 2.5% of all water is freshwater
- Only 1.2% of this is earth’s freshwater supply
- The amount of accessible is only 1%

A drainage basin or catchment area is any are of land where precipitation collects and drains
off into a common outlet, normally a river.

The drainage basin as a system:

Inputs: precipitation, snow melt.
Transfers: river flow, stem flow, overland flow, groundwater flow, percolation, infiltration,
three flow, interception.
Store: soil moisture storage, surface storage, groundwater.
Output: transpiration, evaporation.
