Mother's belly is palpated for what before putting on Fetal Heart Rate sensor? - ANS--
Point of Maximal Impulse (PMI)
(best place to place EFM)
Placement of Fetal Heart Rate Sensor - cephalic vs breech: - ANS-Cephalic:
- placed on lower abdomen
Breech:
- placed on upper abdomen
(PMI is between the baby's shoulders)
Second Sensor of Fetal Monitor: - ANS-Contraction Monitor Sensor
- placed high up on abdomen - monitors contractions
Fetal Scalp Electrode (FSE) - - ANS-- internal fetal monitor
- for high risk pregnancies
- electrode on baby's scalp
- not effected by fluid
- ONLY after amniotic fluid is *ruptured* & *2 cm dilated*
(infection risk!)
Normal FHR - - ANS-110-160 bpm
Variability on FHR monitor - - ANS-- how jiggly/wiggly the line is
- means: happy baby
- *the more wiggly, the more happy*
*Absent* Variability - - ANS-RED LIGHT!
, - NOT jiggly = NOT good
- Risk: complications/death
- C Section!
*Minimal* Variability - - ANS-YELLOW LIGHT
- looks "sleepy & sad"
- flatter line
- baby = sleeping or in trouble
*Moderate* Variability - - ANS-GREEN LIGHT
- NORMAL & desired
*Marked* Variability - - ANS-- jagged jiggles
- *stressed* baby
- typically during labor
Accelerations - - ANS-- temporary ↑ FHR = ok
- means *good oxygenation* for baby
("happy little mountains")
Decelerations - - ANS-- dips from baseline
3 types:
- Early Decels
Early Decels: - ANS-*Good* (Early = Excellent)
- shallow, bowl shaped
- *mirror* mother's contractions
Indicates:
- *head compression* = okay
