Unit 12 Internet Marketing in Business

UNIT 12 – ASSIGNMENT 1

P1 – Describe the role Internet marketing has within a modern marketing context .

 Product

The marketing function considers the features of a product offered to a market or part of the market
(called a segment) decisions are based on these questions, what is it? Who is it aimed at? What does
it do? What it should do?

Internet marketing uses product as part of the marketing mix, businesses use it to sell their product
online making sure that customers are aware what the product is and what the specification of the
product is. For example, Argos is a catalogue retailer operating in the United Kingdom and Ireland
which sells many products in a variety of categories such as technology, sports accessories, toys and
more. This helps customers know what section they need to look up when they are purchasing a
product. Argos has made this easier for customers, because every product is in a category so that
purchases can be simple.

 Price

The marketing function also considers the price a product should be set at. What sort of customers
will buy a particular price? What will be best price to attract a particular kind of customer? What
price might get more people to buy what price might create the best image and what might be the
effect of a change in the price? Different pricing strategies are available according to what the
business is aiming to achieve.

Internet marketing use price as part of the marketing mix, businesses use it on their website while
selling their items they mention the price, this makes sure customers decide when purchasing the
products, they know how much they are spending for the item. For example, Argos lists the price of
all products so that customers are aware of how much they are spending on the purchase. This helps
customers identify the price of the items Argos sells.

 Place

Marketing specialist have always considered how a product will find its way to a place where
customers can make a purchase this includes physical distribution and merchandising into storage,
through other distribution centres then to wholesalers then to the high street retailer. Businesses
working in between a manufacturer and a retailer are known as intermediaries.

Internet marketing uses place as part of the marketing mix, businesses are allocated to certain areas
selling goods at specific stores promoting special deals which other branches do not offer. For
example, Argos have many branches in different areas and they are located in the United Kingdom
and Ireland. Most Argos retail stores are close to stations and it is easy to get to by public transport
which brings the customer from stains station straight to the entrance.
