An Evaluation of Cutting Edge Advanced
Use the checklist from unit 10 ('Evaluating course book material') to write a general evaluation
of the book.
You won't be able to comment on all items as you only have one unit and the contents, but say
as much as you can.
This must be presented as a coherent essay, not just a list.
Then say whether you personally would like to use the book with an advanced class and why or
why not - this is just your opinion, so there is not a right or a wrong response to this part.
You do not need to refer to the class described for Part 2 of this assignment.

`Cutting Edge Advanced` is a student`s book that considers both the age and the academic level of
the students. The textbook`s layout is clear, includes age-appropriate graphics and illustrations.
There is a balance between the amount of text and graphics. The material is well presented and
structured, appropriate headings and colours ensure easy navigation both for students and
teachers. It is easy to distinguish practical tasks from reading material which makes it easy to use
the textbook.
Textbook covers a range of engaging, relevant topics and stimulating tasks ensuring that language
acquisition is contextual and meaningful.
The syllabus addresses reading, writing, listening, and speaking through various tasks.
Tasks including pair and group work encourage interaction. A wide range of activities cater
different learning preferences. Students get a chance to use well-organized grammar and
vocabulary sections that promote independent learning. The textbook also provides opportunities
to use the `Grammar extension bank` that could be used to encourage further practice or perhaps
as a homework. Students are presented with a variety of information sources, promoting critical
thinking and a more comprehensive understanding of the topics. Listening and speaking tasks are
designed to improve effective argumentative techniques, particularly introducing key points.
The grammar structures are well explained and can be used as a tool for developing accuracy and
fluency when completing speaking tasks.
Personally, I find this textbook well-suited for advances learners. The variety, depth and complexity
of the `globalisation` and `urbanisation` material makes it suitable for learners who expect more
