Second Wave Feminism - Concentrated on Women's Liberation, both sexually and socially. It also concerned with this occurring in the private sphere. Gender - A social and cultural distinction between males and females, as opposed to sex, which refers to biological differences. Radical Feminism - Believes that gender divisions are the most politically significant of social inequalities, and believed that they are rooted in the structures of domestic life. Germaine Greer - Wrote the 'Female Eunuch' and proposed political lesbianism as a radical force against male dominated patriarchy. Patriarchy - The belief that society is controlled and dominated by men, at the expense of women. Equal Pay Act - Created in 1970 to give parity of wages between men and women if they have the same skills, for the same job with the same experience. Female suffrage in the UK - Granted in 1918 after the work of the suffragettes and suffragists. Rape in Marriage Act - Finally altered in 1994, so that is was outlawed if no consent was given by the woman. Kate Millett (1970) - Who defines politics as, 'power-structured relationships, arrangements whereby one group of persons is controlled by another'? Natural division between the sexes - The reason given by Feminists for why the private, sexual division of labour has not been brought into the public, political sphere. Socialist Feminists - See the patriarchal nuclear family as reinforcing the capitalist system through distribution of housework and the socialization of gender roles. Sexual politics - Denotes the fact that Feminists are using sexism as a form of oppression much as the Civil Rights has racism or Socialists have Class Politics
