‘With the fall of the wall!’
‘Germany was reunified,’ began Grandpa, ‘and then we had the five ‘new’
federal states. However, they weren’t really new, but all had their own complicated
history – if politicians had recognised that, perhaps we wouldn’t have so many
problems today.’
‘My teacher said that there are more tourists here on the coast than in Bavaria.’
‘True,’ said Grandpa thoughtfully, ‘but wages are low, and lots of young people leave
the area to find work.’
‘Why do they have to leave? Why can’t they work from home, like Mum?’
