Assignment 1
Explain how networks communicate (P1) – Podcast completed
Identify diferent communication protocols and models (P2)
File transfer protocol - File transfer protocol is one of many inital nternet serrices created
and it lets operators change a place of fles on a single PC to another. f they are utlising the
fle transfer protocol program, the user may login on a remote computer, loo at its fles and
has the opton to either upload or download fles that is if the remote computer lets it. t
may be any type of fle it doesn’t hare to be specifc one, howerer the user only has the
permission to to riew the fle name; no details of the fle propertes is inrolred. Various
websites that gire downloadable apps use the fle transfer protocol.

Hypertext Transfer Protocol - These web pages are used depending on multple techniques
and its named hypertext mar -up language. Hypertext mar -up language is a page that is
transmitted and transferred across the internet through a standard way and its named
hypertext transfer protocol. The protocol utlises transmission control protocol/internet
protocol to control and manage internet communicaton.

Simple mail transfer protocol - Simple mail transfer protocol its functon, it transfers mail
startng from one networ then onto the next networ . Simple mail transport protocol is
always utlised through the World Wide Web. Furthermore, this protocol is an applicaton
layer protocol not a transport layer protocol. When they forward an email they hare to
now who they are sending it too and where it’s going to. Furthermore, that email will begin
transferring that email to the mail serrer, fnally it gets transferred to that indiridual they
were sending it to.

Transmission control protocol/internet protocol - This is alpha of communicatons protocols
which is utlised for connectng hosts on the nternet. Furthermore, the type of protocol
utlises loads of protocols, also it is a part of a set of protocols nown as the internet
protocol suite. t's additonally incorporated with the UN X operatng system and is utlised
by the nternet, confrming it the standard for giring informaton orer networ s.

Domain name system (serrers) – Domain name systems are the internet’s own phone boo .
They contnuously enable a directory of all the domain names and eep translatng them to
internet protocol addresses. This is needed because eren though domain names are fairly
simple for someone to remember, the computers only really get onto the pages a user went
to by using their internet protocol addresses. Although domain name systems don’t occur
orer transmission control protocol/internet protocol it is stll used.
nternet message access protocol - nternet message access protocol its’s an nternet
standard protocol utlised by e-mail clients to get e-mail texts from their local mail serrer
orer a Transmission control protocol/internet protocol connecton. nternet message access
protocol is nown as RFC 3501.
