Unit 15 – Development Planning for a Career in Business
D1 – Evaluate the distance travelled in achieving the planned
objectives of the career plan
In my career plan, I have writen that I am atempting to become a senior manager in a company. I
have chosen this due to me having researched it as well as me needing to improve my management
skills, amongst other skills required for that type of job, as well as a number of skills which I currently
possess.
After having researched the role I wish to achieve, I have outlined study which I need to complete to
achieve this goal, the main of which includes a Business Management degree, which I aim to
complete in by 2022. In addition, I have identiied several transferrable skill areas where I either
need development or I am on par to be successful at the course. The areas in which I need to
develop include leadership and management skills, communication skills and decision making skills,
however, I already have sufcient knowledge with basic IT skills, such as Microsoft fce and
architectural software, if I need to use this. I believe I have the needed IT skills as I can proiciently
use technology and have completed a Microsoft fce qualiication in GCSE where I achieved an A,
showing I know how to use this technology.
In addition, having the degree in Business Management will help me to become a more desirable
worker than a worker who has passed another degree atempting to gain a management job as in a
management degree the essentials to management will be taught.
While I have been completing the course, I have had to manage and overcome a number of
difculties. ne of the main difculties I have had to overcome is completing coursework to the
correct standard and on time. This is because I need to manage the course with external factors
which may come up, such as family, employment, and unexpected issues, such as repairing a vehicle,
technology or appliances. It is essential that I manage these factors as without this I will run out of
time within the day and become behind in one of the factors, which is usually college work. To work
around this, I have allocated days to complete the college work and additional time during the week
if I cannot keep on top of this, meaning that I am always up to date with this work. I have chosen to
do this as the qualiication can result in me going to further education or not. In addition, I have
designated times which I use to complete work and other things which may arise, which is not during
college revision times.
Having returned to refeet upon my skills audit, I have identied a number of areas in whieh I have
overeome difeultesi
The main difeulty I have had to overeome when training as a manager is to be beter working as a
group, and sharing my ideas, rather than not talking while part of this groupi I feel I have gained
skills in this area as during work experienee, I had to work with a small group to eomplete various
tasks, whieh I helped infuenee by giving my viewsi
Furthermore, I have gained skills in working out solutons to problems, as in the work I undertook
required a broad viewpoint and the ability to deeide to eomplete jobs a range of diferent ways, as
without this, a planning drawing would be produeed without the ideas of the eustomers, making
them less likely to ehoose the eompany again, as well as not reeommending themi
After being given the tasks to eomplete for the week, I needed to prioritse my roles to eomplete
to ensure they would be eompleted within the tme framei I was also given additonal work to do
on top of this, whieh also had to be eompleted within a tght tme framei
