Unit 16
Task P2

Introducton

In this task I will be describing the skills that employees require in order to carry out jobs in
an organisaton. The organisaton that I will be using for this assignment will be Tesco.

Skill Sets

Skills management is the practce of understanding, developing and deploying people and
their skills. Well-implemented skills management should identfy the skills that job roles
require, the skills of individual employees, and any gap between the two.

Job specific skills

Job specifc skills are specialised, so you mainly focus on learning a job role that you want to
be I the future, so if someone were to be an accountant, your core skills are in managing
accounts comprehensively.

Most organisatons identfy workers skills through interviews, questonnaires, appraisals and
so on. Companies should be identfying what skills employees have before hiring them
otherwise you don’t really know who you are hiring and that person may not have the skills
to be working in a specifc department. However employees can gain experience if they
work in that role and eventually will get used to it.

Technology has had a major efect on a lot of employees such as the elderly people as they
are used to be working the old fashioned way, but due to computers , a lot of employees in
most of the companies that are operated by computers have to be taking training again to
gain experience with the new technology, or these old fashioned workers may need to get
fred and the organisaton will need to hire someone that is already trained which this way it
will be much cheaper because you are not paying for the employees to train and gain these
skills when you can hire people who already know what to do. For example with Tesco and
the self-checkouts that they have employed, in case there is a problem with the system the
employees will need to deal with it so these employees would have needed to re train or
Tesco would just hire someone with good I.T skills.

Generic Skills

Tesco regard generic skills as just basic skills that you have gained from educaton such as
your English, maths, science and other skills that you get from your learning years.
