P:5 explain the benefits of promoting personalization when overcoming challenges faced by
individuals with different needs.
In this assignment, I will begin to explain the benefits of promoting personalization when overcoming
challenges faced by individuals with different needs. Personalization is the term used for ensuring every
person receiving care and support can set personal goals, have choices and have control over their care
and support.

In Valarie's case, her needs are she needs hearing impairment for her hearing, she needs to lose weight
in order to not have any health risks, she needs to get a job so that she could stop relying on universal
funds, she needs support and help for her mental health issues. Personalized care would be fulfilling
those needs as they are personalized to her needs and wants that will help her physically, intellectually,
emotionally and socially.

Valarie's professional caregiver would communicate with Valarie in order for her to achieve those needs
and promote personalized care. They can begin to talk about her preferences and give her knowledge to
get a good plan in structure for her. For example, if Valarie can be able to choose what type of hearing
impairment, she would feel more confident in e.g., (Types of hearing aids: Styles & How They Work
2023) behind the ear, inside the ear or even in the canal. Another example of promoting her
personalized care is, if Valarie's hobby was to do long walks, the caregiver could encourage her to
continue these long walks in order to lose weight. Another example would be if Valarie finally
acknowledged the health factors that would come with being obese, she would begin to want to lose
weight herself and may decide to make it her goal to eat healthy foods. Another example of promoting
Valarie's personalized care would be to find her a job that she would like, if Valarie is a confident
speaker, she could be an answering service operator. Lastly, another example of how Valarie's
professional caregiver could promote personalization for her is by encouraging her to go to a support
group to talk about her feelings.

The benefits of personalization for Valarie are with the hearing aids, Valarie is able to hear people and
not have to ask them to repeat sentences, Valarie would be able to enjoy doing her hobbies such as
those long walks and feel empowered knowing that it's preventing her from getting any health risks. As
well as this, other benefits would be Valarie would be aware of the health risks that come along with
being obese, and her opinions would change meaning she would have set herself beneficial goals.
Another benefit of personalized care is that Valarie won't be relying on universal funds and will be able
to have extra money to spend on herself or can even use that money to move out of the environment
that she is in. One last benefit to her personalized care is that by going to a support center she would
feel like her voice is being heard out and would feel comfortable knowing people are going through
similar situations as her so she wouldn’t be isolated.

A challenge in which personalization would be able to overcome for Valarie is awareness and
knowledge. This is because Valarie could be unaware of how obesity can deteriorate her health hence
her feeling like she doesn’t need to lose weight, however if the caregiver was to explain to Valarie the
risks that come with it, Valarie's opinions would change. This is because no one would want their health
to be deteriorated. Also, Valarie could be unaware of the easy ways to lose weight and with her hobbies
lining in with weight loss, she would be able to enjoy losing her weight. Another way how
