Market Primary research is where a person or company gathers and
research evaluates new data based from facts and opinions in a certain area of
(primary) research which they may be produced after reviewing secondary
research or other primary research to learn more about the topic.
Primary research can be produced and gathered in many forms such
as interviews, general surveillance or questionnaires. My form of
primary research that I conducted involved going into Winchester to
survey the amount of cofee shops in addition to their prices, target
market, location and unique selling points. I surveyed independent
cofee shops such as Rawberry and oosiess in addition to chain cofee
shops such as Starbucks and Pret a Manger.
The primary research that I conducted can help me to identify the
target market due to the research of similar cofee shops to the one I
plan on creating which can enable me to discover the target market
of my own cofee shop. By evaluating similar cofee shops in
Winchester, it can help me to make a correct decision in a way to
target my products and shop towards that target market. For
example, Pret a Mangerss main target market is young professionals
between the age of 18 and 25 who are looking for healthy yet not too
expensive products. They are successful in this as Subway ofer a
deal where a sandwich and drink can be bought for £3 but is not as
healthy as the products that Pret a Manger ofer where a sandwich
and drink can be bought for approximately £5. They target the young
professionals who are not necessarily on student budgets as this
could be too expensive for them and target the market above this.
The pricing of their products helped me to identify this due to the
slightly higher pricing than other chain shops such as Subway and
Costa Cofee. This aided me in deciding the pricing of the products I
plan to sell in my own cofee shop as I want to ofer healthy products
at lower prices to a similar target market.
Published Published research also indicates secondary research which is a
research collection and evaluation of previously formed research, normally
primary research. The two types of published research are internal
and external which can be produced through the research of internet
articles, newspapers, and books.
An example of published research is a Hampshire council article that
provided a thorough analysis of Winchesterss cofee shop retail
market report providing graphs, data and general market information
in comparison to the country and the city. The information produced
in the article showed previously attained information from an audit
and evaluated by a secondary investigator to comment on the trends
in the market in Winchester.
The secondary research that I have investigated helped me to identify
