The Five Aspect Case Formulation (Greenberger and Padesky, 1995)
- In this lecture thoughts and images will be explored.
Cognitive techniques:
- Cognition: thought or visual image that one may not be aware of unless one foc
one's attention on it (Beck et al, 1979).
- Cognitive techniques: used to review and reappraise thoughts and images releva
client's problems.
® Demand to focus on frightening, shameful and depressing
aspects of their lives.
® Why? What is the rationale for them.
® Need to be clear why you're doing something.
The nature of cognition:
- Ephemeral and fluid.
- Realistic and appropriate.
- Never "wrong".
○ Even when unhelpful, it was most likely adaptive and played a function ea
on.
