How can Buttercup care home adapt to meet the diverse needs of Rafi and
Joan?
For Buttercup care home to meet the needs of Rafi in terms of gender, they
must give him a male carer which will make him feel more comfortable. They
can also meet his needs by serving halal or kosher meat due to him being a
Muslim. The benefits include that even though he is in a care home they are still
providing meat that is part of his religion. They should also provide him with a
prayer room facing Mecca so that he can practice his religion. Having a prayer
room facing Mecca also makes him feel valued and welcomed at the care home.
It would help by making him feel more at home, however if they do not have a
room for Christians to pray in they could claim that the care home is being
discriminatory by not providing one and Christians might then be rude or unfair
to Rafi due to this.
Buttercup Care home should provide Rafi with a computer package as he is
severally visually impaired as the package will provide him with bigger fonts to
see. This way he doesn’t have to struggle to see or get people to read it to him,
which makes it easier for him and his carers.
The needs of his family structure are that he has his wife and kids, which he will
need time alone with them to keep a strong bond between himself and his
family. However, it may also make other members of the care home feel lonely.
For the needs of his marriage, he will need to alone with his wife, to meet this
need the care home should allow him to go into his own room but should also
provide private lounges for him and his wife. They must also allow him time
away from the home with his wife for day trips out to garden centres for
example.
In terms of age they must make sure that he gets regular exercise by taking him
to keep fit classes regularly as this will help keep him healthy and at his ideal
weight.
Due to his race being British, he has the right to celebrate British holidays, such
as, spring bank holiday and august bank holiday as well as New Year’s Day, if the
care home decided to stop him they would be discriminating against him.
