My friends and I did it together, we also looked over it with a science teacher with a degree in chemistry and she said it was worthy of a distinction. PS: Don't copy word for word ;)

REGULATIONS AND LEGISLATIONS.

During the interview with the lab technician, he mentioned that there have been accidents that
might have occurred in the past, and it was as a result that the students did not follow the
instructions of the teachers and the technician. The student was shaking a chemical mixture
profusely and there was a spill, the chemicals made contact with the eyes but the effect was mirror
because the chemicals where less concentrated. If this student had protections on, the effects would
have been minimal. So there is a law where all the students should gear up in their Personal
Protection equipment whenever they are in the lab.

There was another case where the gas from a Bunsen burner was left open overnight, if it had any
contact with fire it would have caused an explosion. So there is a rule applied where teachers and
technicians check all the equipment in the laboratory to make sure they are back in order. Also, the
chemicals and radioactive materials follow a ‘checking in and checking out’ procedure where all the
materials are counted before and after the experiment to make sure there is no loss or unnoticed
misplacement of any chemical. To avoid such accidents, students need to pay proper attention in the
laboratory and the classroom. These regulations and legislations are made to totally minimize the
errors that occur in the laboratory.

These regulations and legislations make sure that students and teachers understand the concepts of
the science laboratory and teach them to avoid endangering their lives and the lives of people
around them. Although, accidents are bound to occur in a science laboratory, it is inevitable.
Students or teachers can unexpectedly drop a glass ware, or spill chemicals which may be very
corrosive and ruin the properties they come in contact with. The use of fume cupboards is very
important as they prevent gas from going into the environment. The fume cupboards are designed in
a way that they can conserve gas and release them through their vents in a way that it is not harmful
to the environment and to the students and teachers in the laboratory. Also chemicals that are toxic
or corrosive are kept in cupboards to avoid spillage. Also some chemicals are reactive to light so they
are kept in dark cupboards so they cannot react further.
