Unit 10 - M3/D2 Kojar Ahmed
In this report, I will be investigating and evaluating the findings from my secondary and primary
market research into the bottled water industry. Throughout the course of this market research
process I asked a sample of around 40 people aged 16-18 on their opinions and preferences when it
comes to bottled water, the purpose of this was to determine whether the bottled water industry is a
good and profitable investment. To conduct this market research I used both primary and secondary
methods. The primary method of market research I used was a questionnaire and the secondary
method of market research I used was the internet, specifically adverts, market research companies
(MINTEL reports) and sales records.
Q4 - What is the most appealing aspect of this brand?
9.09%
15.15% 36.36%
Price

21.21% name
18.18% Design

To gather my market research, I used different
methods for both primary and secondary data. To collect primary market research, I would
personally hand a questionnaire to an individual and have them answer all the presented questions, I
would then collect these in and tally up all the answers which would give me my percentages and
answers for the open and closed questions. For my secondary market research I would simply
browse the internet and look at any sites which seemed to be relevant, this would usually take a
while as I had to filter through the irrelevant content. As well as this, I would look for images of
advertisements made by bottled water companies and analyse what made them so popular or
memorable. After I collected all my secondary research I would tally up the answers on Excel and
come up with several pie charts for each answer which I would use for my P4.
Q6 - What is your prefered size of bottled water?
13.33% 0.5 litres
1 litre
40.00%
20.00% 1.5 litres
Other
26.67%
Once I compiled all my results, I came up with
several conclusions as to what consumers are looking for in a bottled water product. Firstly, I
discovered that around 37% of people, out of 40 were all attracted to a brand based on its price, with
the second most appealing factor being the design of the product itself, I also discovered that 40%
out of those asked would prefer a bottle of water that is at least 0.5 litres which is something I will
plan to implement into my final design. Another conclusive result I gathered from my research
