10/11/23- anatomy- central nervous system& sliding filament
theory
CNS- brain&spinal cord
Peripheral nervous system-
Signals travel from brain to spinal dord through brain stem (medulla, pons, midbrain)
Cerebellum- controls balance, movement
Thalamus- receives messages about senses like vision, hearing and touch
Pns
Afferent nerves- relay info from muscles& joints towards brain
Efferent nerves- send info from brain to muscles & joints
Anatomy of motor neuron
Cell body- soma
Long projection- axon- transmitter carrying electrical impulse away from cell body
. has a terminal where signal is transmitted across neurons
Small protuberances- dendrites- acts as receivers and most impulses enter here
Principles of force production
All or nothing principle- strength of a response of a nerve cell is not dependant upn the
strength of the stimulus, if a stimulus is above a certain threshold then a nerve or muscle
fibre will fire.
Types of neurons
Bipolar
two dendrites and two axons
. smallest of all neurons
Unipolar
dendrites and axons are conscious
.deliver sensory info to CNS
.meter or longer
.end at synapses in CNS
Multipolar
.two or more dendrites
