, Abstract
This report aims to investigate the use of capital punishment in the US and UK focusing on
the reasons of its abolishment and continuation. Through investigating these claims, the
report intends to answer the intended question “Should capital punishment be legalised in
the US and UK?” It hopes to address this topic with no bias and allowing for the data and
statistics from both arguments to be heard, including acknowledging the benefits and
weaknesses of legalising capital punishment, as well as justifying the reasons behind these
views so a final conclusion can be made. This report begins by explaining, the history of
capital punishment in both the US and UK before addressing topics surrounding the debate
such as the political and moral issues integrated with the use of death as a punishment. A
mixture of secondary sources is used within the report such as websites, books and journals
which have had its arguments analysed and summarised in the discussion. The report also
includes an additional primary research questionnaire to provide quantitative data to
further back up the statistics found from the secondary research. The conclusion then
answers the intended question “Should capital punishment be legalised in the US and UK?”
Concluding that capital punishment should not be legalised in the US or reintroduced into
the UK justice system.
